Style guide for Research Article submissions

GENERAL STRUCTURE

Abstract

The abstract should not extend past two hundred words. Submissions should also include five to seven keywords.

Introduction

Ideally, the Introduction section should span between one and a half to two and a half pages.

Literature Review

The Literature Review section should be a minimum of three pages and a maximum of five pages, and should critically review the current literature on the field, and should critically introduce and appraise the context in general.

Methodical Framework

The Methodical Framework should span approximately one page, and should delineate the general methodical intentions and design of the study, as well as the anthropological scope and calendar of the data collected, together with other information describing the ethnographed field.

Discussion / Analysis

The Discussion section should span approximately six to eight pages, including tables, diagrams and images.

Conclusion

The Conclusion section, ideally, should span approximately one page.

Bibliography / References

The Reference section should be generally formatted in APA style.

MARGINS

Main text

All main text should be within the margins. Margins should be set to US letter paper size (8.5″ x 11″). All top and bottom margins should be set to 1″. Left-right margins should be set to 1.25″.

Headers and Footers

Only headers and footers may be outside of these margins.

PAGE AND WORD LIMITS

Page number limit

The number of pages is predicated on the word count, number of tables, number of diagrams, and so forth. However, as a rough guide, the number of pages can be between 16 to 35.

Word number limit

The word count must be between 7,000 to 12,000. This includes the reference section and all footnotes.

TITLE FONT SIZES (GENERAL)

Title 

The Paper main title must be 18 point bold Adobe Garamond Pro, and must be centred. Uppercase all first letters of every word, except for function lexical items, e.g. of, the, and so forth.

Author

The author text of the paper must be 12 point, Adobe Garamond Pro, and centred.

Affiliation

The affiliation text must be 10 point Adobe Garamond Pro and must be centred. After each Author, include author affiliation.

MAIN BODY FONT SIZES (GENERAL)

Size

All main body text should be 11 point font. All diagram font must be 9 point font. All Reference section font must be 11 point text.

Type

All main body text should be Adobe Garamond Pro. All diagram font must be Adobe Garamond Pro. All Reference section font must be Adobe Garamond Pro.

SUB HEADING FONT SIZES

First-Level Sub Headings

All first-level sub headings should be 14 point, Adobe Garamond Pro, but not indented. These must be spaced as if they were a separate paragraph.

Second-Level Sub Headings

All second-level sub headings should be 14 point, Adobe Garamond Pro, and italicized, but not indented. These must be spaced as if they were a separate paragraph.

JUSTIFYING AND INDENTING

Justifying Text

All text must be left justified. Every first paragraph of each section must not be indented. Every subsequent paragraph of each section must be indented by one tab. Every item within the reference section must be hanging.

Indenting Text

First lines of the first paragraph of every section must not be indented. The first line of every subsequent paragraph in each section must be indented by one tab.

SPACING

Title Spacing

All main and sub headings must be double spaced, with 12 point sizing.

Main Body Spacing

All main body text must be double spaced, with 12 point sizing.

TABLES AND FIGURES

Guidelines for submitting artwork, figures and other graphics

If you submit appropriate color figures, these figures will appear in color on the online version of the JALA. If a charge applies you will be duly contacted by the Journal.

Tables should be provided (double line-spaced) on separate sheets and their position indicated by note or markers in the appropriate position in the main text. Further to this, all tables must have short descriptions below the tables.

Illustrations

All line diagrams and photographs should be labeled as ‘Figures’ (1, 2, 3 etc) in the manuscript, thus numbered sequentially and consecutively. Line diagrams should be presented as complete, and hence in a form suitable for immediate reproduction, at times when the Journal can not reproduce these. However, should authors require that the Journal reproduce these Figures, the journal may charge a fee for each item.

Submitted illustrations should be of an adequate resolution, that is, at least 300 DPI. Illustrations should be supplied as TIFF, EPS, or JPG files at this high resolution. Similarly, photographs should be submitted as high quality.

Authors must include relevant descriptive captions on a separate sheet, for each illustrative item.

RENDERING

All documents must be provided in either Ms Word or any similar editable document type.

GRAMMAR AND PUNCTUATION

Authors must do their best to correct all grammar, typography, and punctuation. The GLOCAL editors will ensure that all text is edited following submission. However, uneditable texts will be returned to authors for revision and subsequent resubmission. Some editing will be provided, so as to increase the readability of the text.

TITLES, KEYWORDS, ABSTRACTS

The title, keywords, and abstract should significantly assist readers to locate the article through search engines. Please consider effective wording and selections so to strengthen these items.

CORRESPONDING AUTHOR DETAILS

Please provide full contact details for corresponding authors. These include email, mailing address, and telephone contact number. Academic affiliations are required for all authors, and here, details should be separated from the main text of the article, for reasons of anonymous peer review.
