Mary Noguchi
Professor Mary Noguchi is conducting a wide range of research on sociolinguistics related to English and Japanese. In particular, her research focuses on bilingualism, language and identity, comparative Japanese-English studies, pragmatics, and differences in communication styles depending on culture and gender. Recent research topics include the use of humor in English, how to relax directives in business English, the relationship between Korean identity in Japan and Korean language education, and the transition of gender in Japanese.
