Abstract

In this paper we seek to address the issue of cross-linguistic representations of a series of spatial experiences involving a group of events or states in the Hindi language, the language pervasive of India. Throughout the study and the paper, we have made efforts to discuss ways in which these events are mapped onto some conceptual image schemas, as a result of event integration, and ways in which an image schema transformation transpires through talk and use in discourse contexts.

The events we discuss include those of motion of a perceived body, change of state after some process. and a realized state after a causative event. The paper draws examples of these event integrations from the English phrasal verbs, and indicates how these phrasal verbs are realized as similar discursive events in the Hindi language by through the use of compound verbs and complex predicates, including causative forms.
